Physiotherapy – Lorna Malcolm

Physiotherapy Services provided by PHYSIO+

The ethos of PHYSIO+ is life long movementin acknowledgement of the fact that movement, and the independence this allows can make a massive contribution to the quality of a person’s life, as they deal with injuries, illness and as they grow older.

Physiotherapy plays an essential part in the process of pain relief, healing and return to function after bone, muscle, nerve, ligament or tendon and joint injuries, as well as after debilitating illness. It also has value in addressing general aches and pains, body changes that may be the result of poor posture, pregnancy, structural conditions like scoliosis or leg length discrepancy and the stresses and strains placed on the body from occupational or leisure activities.

Physiotherapy can treat the above conditions by assisting the body’s natural healing mechanisms, through such elements as exercise, manual therapy, massage, electrotherapy, increased body awareness, and all this without the use of medication.

Profile of Lorna Malcolm, Director of PHYSIO+

Lorna has many skills that she combines in the most amazing way to deliver individualised treatments that appropriately match clients’ requirements. Lorna currently divides her time between treating musculoskeletal conditions like neck and backache, sports and other injuries and postural issues with working at St Christopher’s Hospice in palliative care. She feels that this gives her practice a more balanced and holistic perspective which is reflected in the way she treats her clients.

Having been a practising solicitor for 9 years before re-training as a physiotherapist, Lorna understands the stresses and strains of corporate life and the demands this can make on the body. Being a keen sports woman, and now the physiotherapist for a London non-professional Rugby team, Lorna fully appreciates the impact of sports injuries and the importance of efficient and sufficient rehabilitation to ensure a timely return to sport and activity. As a qualified sports and therapeutic massage therapist, Lorna is able to compliment her physiotherapy skills and application with soft tissue release, assisted muscle stretching techniques and muscle relaxation as required. Lorna also offers different massage applications as separate, ‘stand alone’ treatments.

A fitness instructor for over 20 years and the author of four ‘fitness’ books, Lorna still teaches many disciplines, including Pilates. She is therefore more than qualified to advise on good posture and corrective body alignment, core stability and balance of back and abdominal strength, as well as more general health and fitness solutions.
