Introduction To Anatomy

INTRODUCTION TO ANATOMY COURSE
This 16 hour introductory anatomy course is designed for those who are thinking of following a career in Pilates or any other movement discipline. It is also aimed at those who are interested in finding out more about the body and how it works.

If you are planning to take our Balanced Body University (BBU) teacher training course in Reformer or Comprehensive, a basic anatomy course is essential for you to complete your programme and become certified as a Balanced Body Pilates Instructor.

On this course you will learn:

  • Vocabulary and planes of motion
  • Basic Vocabulary
  • Planes of motion
  • The tissues of the body: bones, muscles, fasciae, tendon
  • The core and spine: cervical spine, thoracic spine, ribs, lumbar spine, sacrum, coccyx, spinal motions
  • Muscles of the torso
  • Breathing: diaphragm, intercostals
  • Quadratus lumborum
  • Spine: deep posterior & erector spine
  • Abdomen: transversus abdominis, rectus abdominis, internal oblique, external oblique
  • The hip and lower limb: sacrum, coccyx, illium, ischium, pubis, femur, tibia, fibula, ankle and foot
  • Hip, knee, ankle and pelvis movements
  • Muscles that connect the spine to the pelvis and legs
  • Abductors, adductors, flexors, extensors and external rotators of the hip
  • Extensors and additional flexors of the knee
  • The torso, shoulder and upper limb: clavicle, scapula, humerus, ulna, radius
  • Scapular, shoulder (glenohumeral joint), elbow and forearm/radioulnar movements
  • Muscles intrinsic to the upper limb: rotator cuff
  • Muscles that connect the humerus to the scapula
  • Muscles that move the elbow and forearm
  • Muscles that connect the scapula to the torso

This 16 hour course runs over 4 days and costs £327. This is inclusive of VAT and a certificate of completion.
